Today, I met a person that asked me "why aren't you smiling". I could have gone on about my lives drama but I simply said “Brain is working overtime". How many of us wear our emotions on our faces? Can this affect our overall health? Studies have shown that when your emotions are negative, you will physically feel not your best. According to an article written by Nancy Gottesman, negative feelings like stress, sadness and worry spike hormone cortisol’s which suppress the immune system. What can we do to make things better? Try writing out your worries, express how you feel. Holding it can cause our tops to pop, literally. Find a form of meditation and or prayer that can sooth your mood. Tai Chi and Yoga are good but I find that the bible especially Psalm 121 lets me know that help is on the way. Seek help from friends and or a professional. You are not alone; someone has or is currently going thru something similar. Find someone you trust, who will help not hurt. Empowered Living Inc is a good resource to utilize. “We all have the ability to choose an optimistic mind-set. And with practice, we can get better at it." says Lara M. Stepleman, PhD, an assistant professor of psychiatry and health behavior at the Medical College of Georgia. With anything there has to be practice. We weren’t born talking and walking, with help and guidance we learned and continued to grow and get better at it. This is one way to keep your sanity in a world that is full of chaos.
